Student Assistance Program (SAP)

Student Assistance Program (SAP)

All public schools within Bedford County have a Student Assistance Team. Teams are designed to help identify students with, or at high risk for developing, drug and alcohol-related problems and/or mental health issues in order to refer eligible students to the appropriate place for help. Personal Solutions Inc. provides a liaison to the Student Assistance Program teams within Bedford County to provide technical assistance and help facilitate access to appropriate treatment.

Smoke-Free Saturday

The curriculum for our Smoke-Free Saturday program is based on the American Lung Association’s Alternative to Suspension program. Topics discussed include identifying the reasons participants use tobacco and looking at the health and financial effects of tobacco use. Facilitators also lead students in a discussion of how to cope with cravings in school and ways to avoid tobacco use in school. The final hour of the program focuses on how tobacco use can detrimentally affect a young person’s future goals in life.
